Over the course of selling products, Kroc eventually met a client named Earl Prince, who had invented a shake-mixing machine called the multimixer. The five-spindle mixer's speed and efficiency greatly fascinated Kroc, who saw the machine as an instant 'money-maker.' At the age of 37, Kroc left Lily and obtained exclusive marketing rights to the Multimixer. Throughout the next several years, Kroc crisscrossed the country to peddle the machine to drugstore soda fountain and restaurant owners.
As Kroc was turning 50, sales were dropping and customers were rapidly being lost. But then a small restaurant in San Bernardino, California, ordered eight of the machines, which immediately caught Kroc's attention. Kroc traveled for California to visit the restaurant, only to find a small hamburger stand. The stand was run by two brothers: Richard "Dick" McDonald and Maurice "Mac" McDonald.

With the restaurant's assembly line, customers were able to place orders and receive them in less than a minute. Kroc calculated the financial benefits possible with hundreds of the restarant across the country.
THE FIRST MCDONALDS
Ray Kroc was very impressed with how quickly customers got served in the restaurant, so he decided to start a chain of fast-service restaurants called McDonalds. The McDonald brothers agreed to give Kroc the exclusive rights to sell the McDonalds method. Thus, in 1955, Kroc opened the first McDonalds restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois.
