KROC TAKES CONTROL
Ray Kroc bought McDonalds to himself in 1961 for 2.7 million, after encountering many disputes with the McDonalds brothers over changes in the restaurant formula. However, the brothers said that they won't be giving up the original restaurant in San Bernardino, which infuriated Kroc. Since the brothers didn't have rights to their own name, they were compelled to rename their restaurant The Big M. Kroc then proceeded to put them out of business by opening a brand-new McDonalds nearby. In the words of Ray Kroc himself, "Business is Business."
MCDONALDS ADVANCEMENT
After getting rid of the McDonalds brothers, Kroc continued to popularize McDonalds and spread the prospering fast-food restaurant around the world. By 1965, he had opened over 700 restaurants in 44 states. During that year, McDonalds became the first fast-food company to go public. Kroc became an instant multimillionaire within weeks.

With almost 1,500 McDonalds operating globally by the end of the decade, Kroc had met and surpassed his goal
Around that same time, McDonalds was the largest food supplier in the country. It would remain the largest supplier until around the 1990s. Kroc continued to work for his company up to his death on January 14, 1984.

Before his death, Kroc opened a training center in 1961, located in the basement of a McDonalds in Elk Grove, Illinois. This place later became Hamburger University, where students earned their degree in "Hamburgerology." Hamburger University teaches business, service, and social skills for managers. It focuses on sales growth and the ways to run a business. Hamburger University currently has campuses in different cities around the world. Ever since its beginning, the University emphasized consistent restaurant operations procedures, service, quality and cleanliness.
“If I had a brick for every time I’ve repeated the phrase Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value, I think I’d probably be able to bridge the Atlantic Ocean with them.”
